The history of MUSA

The MUSA is located in the Mexican Caribbean, between Isla Mujeres and Cancun. Together they contacted the British artistJason deCaires Taylor to start an underwater art collection. However, it was not until a year after that the site was officially inaugurated, which has generated more than 30 million dollars a year in tourism.

The artists

The greatest exponent of the MUSA is Jason deCaires Taylor, who in addition to being a sculptor is also a photographer. This artist was born in 1974 and is known mainly because his works are underwater. Since childhood, deCaires enjoyed exploring the coral reefs in Malaysia, hence his vocation is oriented to ecotourism as well as the exploration of maritime aesthetics. He graduated with honors from the London Institute of the Arts and when he had 17 years of diving experience he was given the opportunity to transport his work to the sea. The artist is an advocate of the idea of sustainable art and both the concepts and the materials used in his works are based on this principle. Previously, he developed work similar to that of MUSA for an underwater park on the island of Grenada. He is also recognized because he photographs his works himself.
